Welcome to our first email newsletter! We are excited to bring you highlights from the past month.

HIGHLIGHTS

• GOARN membership: The University of Newcastle and the Field Epidemiology Training Program of Papua New Guinea (FETPNG) have both become official partners of WHO’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). Over the past two years, FEiA and GOARN have been developing a strong partnership to strengthen health security in PNG, with a strong focus on operational research and capacity building for health workers. Read more about this exciting new partnership here.

• Frontline PNG: It’s full steam ahead with Frontline FETP in PNG. Provincial readiness consultations have been completed, national stakeholders meeting held and provincial staff recruited. A unique One Health curriculum with a strong focus on community engagement is under development. West New Britain and West Sepik Provinces will kick-off the first Frontline FETPs later this year, with additional provinces launching in 2023.

• COVID-19 Intra-Action Review: In May 2022, the FETP fellows in PNG undertook a COVID-19 Intra-Action Review, providing meaningful insights and recommendations for the COVID-19 response and the FETPNG program. A paper is currently being prepared for publication and we look forward to sharing it with you soon.

UPCOMING

• The second cohort of the Solomon Islands Field Epidemiology Training Program (Sols FETP) is launching in early August in Honiara.

• The final workshop of the aFETPNG program will be held in September, celebrating the graduation of the first extended FETP cohort in PNG.

• FEiA team members are leading the following Interactive Learning Sessions at the 11th TEPHINET Global Scientific Conference in Panama in September: Continuous Quality Improvement in an FETP Curriculum, Centering Women in the Planning and Delivery of Field Epidemiology Training Programs, and Operationalizing FETP Impact Evaluation.

• The second World Field Epidemiology Day is on 7th September! FEiA is proud to celebrate our profession alongside our global field epidemiology colleagues, sharing weekly blogs of field epidemiologists from the Pacific who embody each of the Day’s themes.
