Scouting sites for CORE-PNG's 2027 field simulation

Location scouting is underway for a large-scale field simulation that will put first responders through interactions closely reflecting how a disaster response unfolds on the ground.

The training is part of CORE-PNG, a first-of-its-kind initiative strengthening coordination between defence and civilian health responders in Papua New Guinea, with the simulation planned for early 2027.

Ahead of the exercise, the team has been looking for potential sites across PNG, walking through the bush and along the coast to map locations against each stage of the simulation. Sites are being assessed for different roles, including an Emergency Medical Team and health centre, and a displaced village.
