Rapid Response Teams from East and West New Britain take part in Phase 3 training

Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) from East New Britain and West New Britain, together with the New Ireland RRT Team Leader, took part in Phase 3 training in East New Britain last week.

Papua New Guinea's National RRT led the training alongside an infection prevention and control (IPC) expert from the Morobe RRT, who completed Phase 3 in April 2026. The teams learned from both national and provincial experience.

The program belongs to the PNG National Department of Health, with technical support from the University of Newcastle (UoN).

Following the RRT training, a small number of senior RRT members remained to provide expert feedback and guidance on a newly developed district-level training package. Research conducted by UoN alongside provincial requests highlighted the need for provincial RRTs to brief colleagues at the district level so they can identify and provide an initial response to public health threats.
