First CORE-PNG tabletop exercise held in Port Moresby

In May, the first tabletop exercise was held at the Kumul Leadership Centre, Murray Barracks, Port Moresby. The exercise brought together the PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) Directorate of Health Services with the National Department of Health's Rapid Response Team and Emergency Medical Team to work through a disease outbreak response, covering both operational coordination and technical public health skills.

"This exercise has reinforced the importance of strong civil–military coordination, interoperability, communication, and shared responsibility in responding to health emergencies in Papua New Guinea. It has highlighted that effective emergency response depends not only on operational capability, but also on collaboration, clear coordination mechanisms, and an understanding of each agency's roles, responsibilities, and mandates."— Major Roselyne Wia, Acting Director, PNGDF Health Services

Planning is underway for a second tabletop exercise in Lae in October, with a joint civil-military simulation to follow in early 2027.
