Provincial RRTs move into applied field skills

The first revised provincial Rapid Response Team (RRT) Phase 3 workshop ran from 21–25 April in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province, bringing together 22 participants from the Eastern Highlands and Morobe Provincial Health Authorities. The workshop moves RRTs beyond the foundational knowledge of Phases 1 and 2 into applied, practical field response skills.

Participants worked through a progressive outbreak scenario set in the fictional "Kapongo Province," spanning surveillance and risk assessment through to early action review and demobilisation. Inter-provincial peer learning was a highlight for all involved.

The workshop met its core aims: contextualising the National RRT Standard Operating Procedures for each province, building inter-disciplinary team coordination through scenario-based exercises, and reinforcing core rapid response skills. Both RRTs completed action plans for priority follow-up activities ahead of the Phase 4 After Training Review.
