Sols FETP cohort 3 graduates
In March, eight fellows completed the third cohort of the Solomon Islands Field Epidemiology Training Program (Sols FETP) in Honiara. During their training, the fellows led a range of projects across the health system: malaria reporting, sharps management in hospitals, Excel skill retention for FETP graduates, and the use of traditional healing among patients hospitalised with skin abscesses.
Fellows also led meaningful interventions, including interventions targeting reporting completeness in the national sentinel syndromic surveillance system. These interventions directly strengthen the ability of the Solomon Islands to detect disease outbreaks. Sols FETP now has 21 field epidemiology graduates working at different levels of the health system.
Cohort 4 is scheduled to commence shortly. In this cohort, two new junior faculty will work alongside the existing team of national faculty.
